Cathy Stewart

Cathy grew up in Winnipeg, studying English Literature and French language at the U of Winnipeg. She received her M Div from McCormick Seminary (PC USA) in Chicago, and then moved to St John’s Newfoundland for a year before settling in Hamilton. Cathy was ordained in the Presbytery of Hamilton, served at St Cuthbert’s Presbyterian for 19 years (through various transitions and roles), and then did two Interim Ministries (MacNab in downtown Hamilton and Caledonia). She worked with Credence and Co (a team based in Waterloo) as a consultant for five years. One significant part of her ministry has been conflict management, for which she trained at Conrad Grebel College, gaining her “Qualified Mediator” certificate.

Some significant times in her life have been: growing up at a wilderness canoeing/outripping camp in Lake of the woods; two years in Southern France; a multi-year program at a Benedictine monastery with 30 other Protestant minsters to develop leadership rooted in spiritual practices; playing violin in various configurations since age 10. She has written 2 books: God Laughed (or Why did Jesus have to die?” and A goodness I cannot explain: a medical-spiritual memoir. This one is available in the Knox library (or on Amazon). For R&R she gardens on her corner lot (pollinator-friendly certified!), hikes the Bruce Trail, knits, cooks, and enjoys her 4 grandchildren (her children too!).
